Big News!

VEXXHOST just announced a huge revamp in our public cloud offerings. This is one of the biggest advancements in recent years for the company and offers many added benefits to our customers.

We're so excited about this, so let's get right to the point. Here are the VEXXHOST public cloud changes that have been announced:

  • New servers equipped with 2nd Gen AMD EPYC™ processors for the Montreal region
  • Storage upgrading from SSD to NVMe in our Montreal region
  • New aggressive pricing for the benefit of our clients

And... *drumrolls*

  • A new region in Amsterdam!

Our CEO Mohammed Naser made the official announcement during his keynote address at the Open Infrastructure Summit 2020. VEXXHOST is also one of the headline sponsors of the event, being held virtually this year due to the pandemic.

Now, let us get into the finer details of VEXXHOST public cloud changes and how they benefit our clients.

New AMD Servers in Montreal Region

It is no secret that AMD has revolutionized the server market in the past few years with its avant-garde processors. The EPYC generation of processors changed the game for the industry when introduced and continues to do so.

VEXXHOST's Montreal region is currently seeing an addition of 2nd Gen AMD EPYC™ processors. This move is a significant boost to our operations and our valued customers in terms of high performance, secure computing that contributes to better workload acceleration, infrastructure, and data protection.

Here is a glance at some specs and highlights of the new processors.

  • Driven by AMD Infinity Architecture
  • First x86 architecture processor for servers based on 7nm process technology
  • Up to 64 high-performance cores per SOC
  • Equipped with AMD Infinity Guard and PCIe® Gen 4 I/O security features
  • Hybrid, multi-die architecture

Upgraded Storage from SSD to NVMe

We're making a switch from SSD to NVMe, currently the fastest hard drive in the market - this means that our public cloud users will also now be equipped with this advanced offering. Only large-scale enterprises used NVMe storage initially, but now there is a gradual change where the technology has reached the consumer market. A notable benefit available with NVMe storage is it accelerated parallel read and write capabilities, and we couldn't wait to make it available to our clients.

NVMe drives also have the advantage to work at speeds upwards of 2000MB/s compared to the typical SATA III SSD running under 600MB/s because of the interaction with flash memory through the PCIe interface, which is bi-directional and runs at stellar speed. NVMe is also more power-efficient, cutting power consumption by significant percentages when in standby mode. It is also a scalable alternative going beyond the four lanes found in most conventional PCIe SSDs.

We made the switch without any downtime for our users. In fact, there was no action required from the user's side. We used Ceph to make the switch from SSD to NVMe, and that was it. The only change the users felt was after the switch, in terms of better speed and performance. We believe that this move will help us gain a competitive edge concerning services for our consumers and ensure better performance.

New Aggressive Pricing for VEXXHOST Public Cloud

We have always been known for our competitive prices without any compromise on product quality and attributes. But this time around, we really feel that we have taken it to a new level in terms of aggressive pricing while also having the most advanced offerings.

We wanted to make sure that cloud solutions are more accessible to users, especially considering the current Covid-19 pandemic situation. Many companies face challenges in maintaining their infrastructure and are moving into cloud. Our aim is to make things easier for them as well as for our existing customers.

With the new introductory pricing model, the hourly rate for a standard 2 core, 8 GB offering is just $0.055, compared to the market rate, which stands at $0.086. The difference between the market rate and the new VEXXHOST rate is a staggering 36%. Higher core/memory offerings such as 4 core - 16 GB, 8 core - 32 GB, and 16 core - GB, will also carry proportionate price reduction.

The new pricing is available to all new users and existing customers who are making the switch to the latest offerings from VEXXHOST. The new pricing is introductory and subject to change at a later stage. With the addition of the most advanced technology to our fore and the launch of a new region for our operations, the pricing becomes an added advantage for our customers.

New Region in Amsterdam

Two years after the launch of their region in Santa Clara, we have announced the launch of a frontline data center in Amsterdam. We believe that the launch of the new region across continents cements our global footprint further.

It is worth mentioning that operations in VEXXHOST's new Amsterdam region will feature all the new hardware announced, according to new aggressive pricing. More prominently, it will be running on OpenStack's latest release Victoria. Victoria launched just days ago on October 14th, and we already have it onboard for our new private cloud offerings.

Providing the best of standards in all aspects of cloud operations has always been a top priority for VEXXHOST, and the same goes for the new region in Amsterdam. The state-of-the-art data center we use in Amsterdam provides unparalleled service in terms of connectivity, efficiency, server protection mechanisms, security, and reliability. The facility is built to Uptime Institute Tier 3 standards, the industry's most stringent specifications, and is ISO 50001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OHAS 18001, PCI/SOC, and AMS-IX certified. To deal with any server-related issues, an expert team is available 24x7 on-site, performing a wide range of management, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks.

The Amsterdam DC boasts of a multi-tier security system, including a full perimeter fence surveillance system, 24x7 on-site security and monitoring, and highly secure access-card-based entry. To combat any sort of emergencies, there are conventional spot detection, VESDA like aspiration detection, and high-pressure water-mist suppression mechanisms in place. High energy efficiency with green standards, advanced global connectivity via being linked to AMS-IX, and high reliability in terms of failsafe electric supply with dedicated substations are also some of the salient features of the facility.
